Not long ago Cinap Lenrek -author of the linux kernel emulator linuxemu, the SMB server cifsd, newboot, and an innumerable amount of other sofware for plan9 – has launched plan9front, a fork of the official Plan9 distribution from Bell Labs
This news would not be so interesting if the author did not work at a rate of 10-20 commits a day, and without the following list of changes:
* 9load has been replaced by something more advanced: 9boot. * The fossil filesystem has been replaced by cwfs. * The runtime of the Go programming language has been ported. * A new per-file server kbdfs. * The possibility of installing from USB CD-ROM, USB HDD, and USB Flash. * The inclusion of the SMB-server cifsd. * Python and Mercurial. * tty Emulation System. * The /dev/realmode emulator realemu, allows launching graphics mode for systems with video cards that were not supported before. * New drivers for the following devices: Broadcom BCM57xx, Intel 82801FBM SATA controllers, Intel 82801HB/HR/HH/HO SATA IDE, Intel 82801HBM SATA (ICH8-M), AMD Geode LX video card, Wacom WACF004 and WACF008 Tablets.
