Emacs users meeting in the hacklab of Sevilla.

Emacs users meeting in Sevilla.

As announced on the hackarena website:

http://sevilla.hacklabs.org/?q=node/14

This weekend there will be an informal meeting between Emacs users. We reproduce here the ideas that have come up so far to cover at the meeting:

In the #emacs-es channel on irc.freenode.net and on the hackarena mailing list (hacklab-sevilla AT listas.nodo50.org) the idea of an emacs users meeting came up.

Emacs is an editor with a long history in free software, whose origins lie in the MIT hacker community in the late 70s, and where GNU emacs, by Richard Stallman, is one of the most widespread versions of emacs.

David Vazquez, a very active member of the emacs community, together with other users proposes a meeting to cover these topics:

* Introduction to the GNU/Emacs editor * Emacs as a document processor (Latex, Texinfo, Docbook..) * Development in GNU/Emacs

* Version control * Diffs, patchs, … * More

* Advanced editing: improving your productivity

* Task automation: macros. * Automatic writing: abbrevs, templates, autocompletion..

* More than an editor: extending the functionality

* Planning (org-mode, planner, …) * Email and news * Instant messaging * Integrating the whole system

* Lisp: History and Introduction * Programming in Emacs Lisp and extending Emacs (workshop)

Place: CSOA Sin-Nombre

C/ SanBernardo 42 /46 (exposed brick building, former school in front of the old cadiz station) We will meet on the floor above.

Update: The meeting ended with a lot of satisfaction from the attendees. These photos are from Sunday, when Davidam had already left us so he could visit the city before going back to Madrid.
