I still enjoy hacks.
Until now, the vejeta.com domain was hosted on my own machine. Yes, you read that right, it was hosted at my home, with a dynamic IP, and running Zope-Plone since 2008.

Plone
It started as an experiment to learn a new Python-based CMS that would let friends with common interests create content we cared about. Initially, and thanks to Paco Linux, we wrote many original articles in Spanish about retrocomputing and old operating systems. Over time, the news items started to look more and more like a blog, so a few days ago I began the migration from Plone to WordPress.
I am still a fan of Zope and Plone, but for use as a personal blog I went for something lighter.
Of everything I read and tried, the solution I chose was to create a collection in Plone into which I added all the pages, news items and user files, and to export that collection as RSS. The process is described here:
http://developer.plone.org/functionality/rss.html
The collection is available in 3 formats:
- RSS 1.0 – http://midominio/site-feed/RSS
- RSS 2.0 – http://midominio/site-feed/rss.xml
- Atom – http://midominio/site-feed/atom.xml
WordPress can import an RSS 2.0 feed from the «Tools -> Import» menu.
I found that the RSS 2.0 feed of the collection in plone did not contain the full content of each news item, so I downloaded the feed in atom format and converted it with xsltproc.
I downloaded the XSL stylesheet for the conversion from http://atom.geekhood.net/ ,and with a single command line on GNU/Linux we get the file with all the content in RSS 2.0 format, ready to import into WordPress.
xsltproc atom2rss-exslt.xsl fichero-fuente-atom-de-plone.xml > vejeta.rss
No images were imported, but I consider it a good starting point for migrating a collection spanning several years of articles.
I did not need the next two links, but I leave them here as a reference. They looked very interesting to me, especially the one about counteracting the work of spammers who harvest content.
