What does this mean for the case of browsing google or any other website that supports HTTPS?
Google has an encrypted search option at https://encrypted.google.com/.
Now you will be able to search without the requests or the responses going in clear, providing more privacy in your browsing. For example, on a firewall no trace of the URLs of the searches on google would remain, since the URL would also go inside the encrypted connection. This applies right up to clicking on another different website.
The plugin currently works with:
- Google Search
- Wikipedia
- bit.ly
- GMX
- WordPress.com blogs
- The New York Times
- The Washington Post
- Paypal
- EFF
- Tor
- Ixquick
- *and many more sites. *

In the case of Chrome or Chromium you can make your default search option encrypted too if you go to [Tools]–> [Preferences]–>[Basics] and select the «Manage» option in the Search section.
There you add a new search engine with this data.
- EncryptedGoogle
- encrypted.google.com
- https://encrypted.google.com/search?{google:RLZ}{google:acceptedSuggestion}{google:originalQueryForSuggestion}sourceid=chrome&ie={inputEncoding}&q=%s
You make this your default option. You can also configure gmail to use https by default if you had not done it yet.
We thank the Electronic Frontier Foundation for this plugin which, in such a simple way, helps us improve the privacy and security of our data.
